Review of Top 11

September 13th, 2007

Matt Corby - This young man blows me away, he’s grounded, he comes across like a really nice young bloke, not at all up himself as perhaps you would expect a young man with his looks and talent would … he’s a real credit to his parents. I’m sure they can’t take the smile of their faces every time he sings. I’m looking forward to how he rocks it out on Sunday night.
I wish he would stop wearing those big shirts over his shinny jeans as they make his legs look a little bowed  on TV. My gut feeling is he will be one of the top two that walk up those steps to the Opera house.

Mark Da Costa - I so want him to be the other contestant that walks up those steps with Matty. This guy is so comfortable within himself, that in itself, is very appealing, I love the way he sits one leg over the the other and always looks so relaxed as though he’s done this all before. He has a strength of character which I believe will hold him in good stead with this journey and if I was Matty’s mum I’d be very relieved that my son would be rooming with him, I feel he will be a great help to Matty throughout this competition.
He probably hasn’t got the best vocals in the competition but I do enjoy listening to him, he is bar far the best entertainer out of the group and that, I believe, is what will keep him in the comp for some time.

Tarisai Vushe - By rights if this competition was based on vocals alone this kid would have it in the bag. My concern is her personality doesn’t seem to appeal to the general public, going on what I read on the forum and what friends have said. When she first came to this competition, we saw a vivacious young women that was incredibly appealing…. then I feel she overdid the religious thing and I get the feeling someone has got in her ear and told her to ease up. If this is the case and it may be in my imagination then I think she should go back to the way she was and be herself because at the moment she comes across as a little fake and I don’t believe that to be the case at all. Just listening to her again and by rights she should be walking up those steps with Matty, time will tell I guess.

Daniel Mifsud - Daniel has a distinct style and I think the public will either love it or find it a little too cruisey to watch week in and week out, if he can show us some diversity he could stay in the contest for a while. He certainly has the look and comes across as an incredibly nice guy, unfortunately nice guys don’t always win. Considering he is getting over his sore throat, I think rock will be a tough week for him. If he doesn’t win then I hope he puts a CD out because I’d be buying it to play when we have our friends over for a dinner party.

Jacob Butler - I have a feeling it will come down to Mark v Jacob eventually. I love to watch Jacob perform but I love to watch Mark more, but that’s just me. Jacob I feel has had a fair bit of support to get to this part of the competition so I really hope he does well. Don’t get me wrong I love watching him perform but I have no connection with him as yet …. for someone who has had the experience he’s had, the last two performances, I have felt he just tries too hard …. I can’t blame him for that, after what he’s given up to get to this stage but I would love him to connect more with us at home rather than just get on stage and jump around like he’s playing at Wembly.

Ben McKenzie - Shows a great deal of class and confidence for someone so young, very much the dark horse of this competition. His voice is incredibly marketable and I’d imagine a record producer would love to record with him. I like him, but he’s only left one impression on me so far with Mad World. His dress sense has improved incredibly since we saw him stroll in at the auditions, really starting to look the part now, maybe he should help Marty out in that department

Natalie Gauci - Just expected so much more from Natalie and I still believe that will come, not sure whether it’s her song choices or fashion sense is letting her down but she’s done nothing yet that has the wow factor associated to it and I so want to see that. Natalie comes across as one of the most genuine contestants in the house and I’d imagine would be very easy to live with.
I really want her to do well so we can keep a couple of women in this competition, I can see only her and Tarisai lasting the distance.

Carl Riseley - Has charm, charisma, bags of personality but will swing keep him in this competition????. He looks like he’s really enjoying his journey which is great to see. I can’t wait to see how he goes with rock, I just hope he doesn’t use a gimmick song like Waltzing Matilda again, show us you do have the chops as Marcia so aptly put it.

Marty Simpson - Mr Cool ….. he really needs to work on his image, if he does that, the young girls of Australia I have no doubt will keep him in the competition. This young man, more than most needs the experience…..if he’s here for a few more weeks then his confidence will grow and he may finally show us the great personality he has. Listening to his songs on MySpace he’s certainly talented but is he an entertainer and has he got it in him to be one …. that’s the question?? ….. we will only ever find out if he is kept in the competition and given that time to grow,

Brianna Carpenter - I like Brianna but sometimes she comes over a little cocky, she has a sharp tongue which we saw back when she had a dig at Kyle, back then I  thought it was a silly thing to say….anyway since then she’s grown on me, she intrigues me a little. This Sunday I would dearly love her to come out dressed straight and really belt one out. I can’t wait to see what she chooses to sing but if it’s some left of field song she may risk going…..get into some rock kiddo and show us what you can do!!!

Lana Krost - Isn’t she just a sweet young women, I have a really bad feeling she may go this week, how can she possibly give any rock song and credibility with such a fragile voice that she has?
I so hope she proves me wrong and comes out with leather pants a bad arse shirt and rocks her little heart out YEHAA!!!

Review of Final 1

September 9th, 2007

FINAL 1

Ben McKenzie - Sunday Morning - Looked incredibly relaxed and fabulous on camera, hair looked great too. Really has a marketable voice which should take him a fair way into this competition…..enjoyed the song choice…..no wow performance but he’ll be safe. He really has a unique voice hasn’t he :)

Mark Da Costa - Vertigo - Really does have star quality, a confident performance, huge song choice. Loved what he wore especially the jacket. Would love him to show us more depth in his performance next week.

Lana Krost - Shiver - What a mature voice for such a young women., personally she sounded great but was a boring performance …. much better than last time though. I didn’t think she looked nervous at all. The camera certainly loves her. I agree with Ka-ching she’s not ready for this show yet :(

Daniel Mifsud - Cry me a river - Interesting song choice, but I didn’t like the arrangement, the backers drowned him out a little too, looked fantastic on camera and I’d say the young ladies may get him through if he’s lucky ….. I just know he can do better than this aaaggghhhh
Dicko said to keep it simple yet we have all wanted him to rock it out, simple is boring Daniel aaaggghhhh Good Luck !

Carl Riseley - Waltzing Matilda - I really enjoyed that, what a unique thing to do, a real gamble but it really did paid off, well done Carl, get rid of that bloody hat though lol YEHAA!!!! …… he’ll be safe !!!! Kyle {smack}

Holly Weinert - Standing in the way of control …. what was that? Hated the song choice? The hair do didn’t match the outfit. Sorry guys I didn’t enjoy that at all :( Loved her enthusiasm though …’Patty Newton on crack’ I loved that comment!!!!

Matt Corby - The scientist - WHAT A STAR this kid is ….. god he looks great on camera ….. not keen on the song choice but sounded beautiful ….. YEHAA!!! finally a little power in the vocals ….. what an incredibly mature performance ….. a great response to Dicko too, congratulations young man.

Jacob Butler - When we were young - looked awesome, used the stage well ….. the old Jacob is back YEHAA!! Entertaining and passionate performance. Now that’s what I’m talkin bout!

Tarisai Vushe - If I were a women - WOW!!! ….. she gives me a chill everytime she sings and expresses herself so well …… by rights this women should win this show EASILY!!!! The question IS will she ? What a special and beautiful voice she has WOW!!!!!!

Natalie Gauci - On My Mind - What on earth was she wearing, she has such a beautiful face and looks fantastic on camera, then spoils it all by what she wears aaaggghhhhh
I liked her interpretation of the song and she sounded great but as yet as hasn’t shown that punch I have been expecting?

Marty Simpson - So lonely - I love his family :):):) Marty DRESS UP!!!!!!! you’re on National TV ….. I just love his voice but he just hasn’t got that star quality that Matty has YET!!!! His journey will be interesting!!!! Darlin work on your image!!!! I really WANT him to do well.

Brianna Carpenter - God only knows - Great song choice and loved the way she sang it tells a story better than anyone on the show. Loved the arrangemnt too, well done kiddo!!!! I really enjoyed that….. which surprised me?

Next year we need some new judges…..

September 7th, 2007

I really think Mark and Marcia need to have a holiday and bring in some new blood. Marcia offers nothing!!!! Everything she says is sooooooo predictable aaaggggghhhhh.
I am a big fan of Kyle because of his honesty, he isn’t musically inclined but he does know what the public want to hear, would actually love to see his partner in crime Jackie O join him on the panel.
Mark has credability in the music industry but he really does carry on like a pork chop which is a real distraction. This show is about the contestants not Mark Holden! I saw him in the studio a few years back and would love the producers to do that again and take him off the panel.
We will probably loose Dicko next year if Simon has anything to do with it so who could we have as the other judge, anyone have a suggestion ?

Cheers Pops

Idol 2007 - Wild Card Review

September 6th, 2007

WILD CARD

Jack Byrnes …. Long train Running ….. very similar to what he did the other night, loved the vocals, he just doesn’t connect with the audience, he seems to sing to himself ??? I wish i could explain that better …. I doubt very much he will get through :( …….he just seems to sing in his own little world and not to the audience…felt no connection at all

Husny Thalib …. I believe …. Did he go off key? He certainly puts the feeling into the song and to his credit it is believable but I really don’t think he’s vocally strong enough to go through.

Carl Riseley ….. By By Love …. looked great ….. the best so far ….. sounded great but again didn’t connect with us at home, I guess this may come with experience, have to be honest left me a little flat.
Needs the experience, I wonder whether he will get the chance?
….. anyone get the feeling Carl may have given a hint about his sexuality then ?

Sarah Lloyde ….. Candy Man ….. LOVED IT!!!!!! Great legs, Stinky will be happy YEHAA!!!! Needs to learn to move around the stage a little better but great performance, lost it a little at the end but i thought she did really well.

Dave Andrews ….. The Dolphins cry ….. heaps better, believable performance …. would have been heaps better if he would have dressed up, shown a bit of style, not sure if that’s a strong enough performance to get through.

Daniel Mifsud …. Lay ya love on me ….. Love his confidence ….. I was getting a little nervous he wasn’t going to open up his eyes ….. that’s exactly what ya needed to do YEHAA!!!! I felt ya passion !!!! Loved it …
Congratulations!!! Will get through for sure ….

Natalie Gauci …. Feeling Good…… Now that’s what I’m takin bout YEHAA!!!! A captivating performance! Loved the hair …… you’re there kiddo! Great outfit!!!!!

Mark Da Costa …. EVE …I love this song!!!!! LOVED IT!!!!!! Is he hot or what!!!! Oh Yeah!!!! Didn’t he enjoy himself, sitting here with a stupid grin on my face ….. settle pops lol Best of the night BY FAR!!!!!!

Idol 2007 - Review of the Semi’s

September 6th, 2007

SEMI 1Matt Colby - I Wish …came on like a real pro, very relaxed sounded great….hard to believe he is only 16 ….. didn’t come across as strong as I had expected. That’s probably a perfect example of giving so much attention to an artist, but he did well and I have no doubt he will get through, something very special here.Junior - Dear Mr President - Unfortunately personality wise he does nothing for me …..sounded good, but left me flat I personally can’t see him going through. He did however put feeling into the song ….Carl Riseley - Home Wow ….. I love this guys voice Marcia will love this ….. beautifully performed, wavered a little vocally but I did enjoy the performance.

Daniel Mifsud - Tip of my Tongue Comes across as a real pro ….. has heaps of sex appeal …… looks great on camera, confident and sounded great, I’m sure he’ll get through  Thought he may have been a little stronger vocally, maybe it was the song choice ?

Husny Thalib - If ya can’t say no ….. not my cup of tea certainly put his heart and soul into the performance but to me it was overdone Used the camera well though.

Jacob Butler - Cars …..Love the look of this guy, always seems to wear stipes lol. Vocally the best tonight I reckon, worked the crowd well and the camera well ….. not sure of the song choice but enjoyed the performance……

SEMI 2

Sally ….. Blimey where did she come from …. fabulous, engaged the audience the camera loved her and she sounded fabulous!!!!! WOW

Natalie Gauci - Hurt ….. incredibly talented young women looked fabulous, sang like a real pro and told the story with real feelings ….. not sure I enjoyed the song choice though but she did really well. I must say not as well as I was expecting though.
Kyle was right satin pants are disastrous for TV lol

Cheray - Tell me about it ….. well that’s not what I expected???? Turned away from the camera a little too often, entertaining but confused me a little …looked good on camera, sounded great but I’m not sure??? Was a risky thing to do but it seemed to pay off with the judges ….. mmmmm

Tarisai - River Deep Mountain High …….. What a brilliant voice this young women has, the best in the competition by far ……bloody hell!!!!!!! Brilliant …. this kid will go through for sure…..she does it so easily!!!!
By rights she should win this, but Idol is a funny thing ….. as far as the chatter Tarisai, less is more

Jesse - One ….. Vocally beautiful, and tells the story beautifully too, seemed really relaxed, a hard call to come on after a big voice like Tarisai, she’s better than this …. probably not the best song choice. Would have preferred her to belt one out!

Lana - Big girls don’t cry .…. what a little sweetheart, and incredably humble …. looked just beautiful and how perfect was her diction, lost it a couple of time because of nerves. Is she too fragile for this show? I wish she would have come in a little older, she seems just too perfect if that makes sense…..

SEMI 3

Mark Da Costa- Whole lotta luv
YEHAA!!!! What a great opening to the show ! Was he pumped or what!!!!! Engaged the audience brilliantly!!!! Way to go Mark, brilliant song choice. He’s the real deal and that’s what i love about him.

Ben Mckenzie - Mad World
Loved the look, sounded beautiful, looked very comfortable on stage, not keen on the song choice but did better than I thought he would …. a credable performance and brilliant story teller, well done kiddo.

Jack Byrnes-  I still haven’t found what I’m lookin for
Powerful voice, loved what he did to this song, overdid the dance routine but sounded great! Pumped or what!!!! He played within himself and didn’t engage the audience unfortunately but I love his voice. Was he a little tanked or what, or was that a natural high?

Dave Andrews - John Farnham
I really like this guys voice, sang this beautifully, his diction was great and he really did feel the lyrics ….. nice performance….but left me a little flat ….. what a lovely young man….felt like crying for him :(

Lyall Adonis - Desperado
Not a good start but came good, felt a little unsteady, unfortunately I hate this song  Looked fabulous on camera. I really think his nerves got the better of him. He seemed to loose his breath ….bugger!!!!!

Marty Simpson - Over My Head
He looked a little uncomfortable without his guitar but I loved his voice. Wish he would have tucked his shirt in….not overly keen on the performance, sorry girls …He’s very layback and I wonder if this may hurt him.

My favorite two were Mark DeCosta and Ben Mckenzie

SEMI 4

Sarah Lloyd - I’m telling you I’m not going …. looked beautiful, stronge vocals ….. use the camera Sarah, another great opening act! I’m not too sure of the song choice either?

Morgan Hosking - You live you learn ….. Here’s our rock chick …..What a an unusual voice, looks beautiful on camera, really didn’t do anything for me and unfortunately I didn’t feel she had any stage presence….

Holly Weinert - Easy …. Great voice!!!! Hated the Tshirt even though I’m a red sox fan ….. she forgot to engage us at home ….. wasn’t too fussed on the performance to be honest:( but I’d say she may get through from what we have seen so far.

Madison Pritchet - When your Gone
All class, looked fabulous, finally someone who is connecting with us at home, started a little nervy and became quite pitchy ….. with the intro I expected more….doubt if she will get through …. this isn’t looking good

Brianna Carpenter - what was that? what a strange song, told the story well and loved her expressions but didn’t get the performance at all???? Not my cup of tea??? To insult any judge like that is not a smart move!!! ….. although somehow I think Mr K will love it lol. She does intrigue me a little though

My 2nd Impression of the Top 12

September 6th, 2007

My 2nd Impression of the Top 12

Matthew Corby - My gut feeling tells me this kid could win Idol this year, there seems to be something really special about him, He has charisma, style, a winning smile, a beautiful face which is extremely appealing …… he has a self assurance way beyond his 16 years and from what we have seen so far has a wonderful voice. Whether his voice is powerful enough to carry him through, I guess only time will tell.

Tarisai Vushe - In my opinion this kid has the best voice I have heard on Australian Idol to date, would be very disappointed if she wasn’t in the last two but the way the Australian public vote, that worries me a little, way to many good looking young men in the competition which will get the majority of the votes. Her image and her personality will play a big part.

Natalie Gauci - This young women reeks of class ….. the camera loves her and I have no doubt the stylist will get it right, how could they go wrong with such a gorgeous young women. I think we have only skimmed the service of what this young lady can offer, I just love her voice ….. looking forward to seeing how she progresses in the competition, good chance of making the Opera House too.

Mark Da Costa - How can anyone not love this guy, incredibly marketable, has heaps of sex appeal which will appeal to both the young and older women {giggle}…. he’ll also get many guys supporting him that are into rock. I’m interested in seeing how he goes with the different styles of music, I love his voice and his smile and he’s by far the best entertainer in the competition and is obviously very comfortable in his own skin which is very appealing.

Jacob Butler - I believe will surprise a lot of people once the competition starts, I hope the Australian public give him a fresh start. I hope we see the cheekiness and a little cockiness come back which is what I found appealing when I saw him perform before. Once he relaxed he is great on the stage, lets hope we see that on Sunday.

Ben Mckenzie - Is unique and is so different than most of the guys, that performance the other night when he sang Gary Jules’ “Mad World” really caught me off guard, what a polished performance that was, now the question for me is, was that a one off ???? I certainly hope not.Daniel Mifsud - Another young man with a heap of class, he interviews brilliantly, reeks of sex appeal has the greatest smile. He’s cool, calm and collected and my only concern with Daniel is …… can he belt one out and get a standing ovation ….. he comes across as incredibly gentle and calm performer ….. can that win Australian Idol? I’d like to see him sing something with a bit of grunt, maybe on the rock night.Lana  Krost - Just beautiful ….. her voice is just so perfect, the question is …..is it too perfect? I love her dress sense shows lots of class in that department, incredibly photogenic. I am really keen to watch how she grows in this Idol journey of hers …..Marty Simpson - What a cheeky little smile this guy has and what an unusual, husky and sexy voice he has, can see all the girls swooning lol. My main concern for Marty is his layback attitude….. that attitude won’t work in this environment and I think he will feel the stresses of the competition, probably more than most. I really can see real growth in this young man if he stays around, would love him to get a haircut and show us more of that very handsome face he has.

Brianna  Carpenter - Now this young women intrigues me ….. not my cup of tea but she is such a talented musician I’m really interested to see what she offers to this competition.

Holly Weinert - I really like her voice but as yet as made no impression on me ….. lets hope that changes :)

Carl Riseley - I personally think Carl is a little out of his league vocally but in saying that, now he’s in the Top 12, he may be more relaxed and come out on Sunday night and blow us all way, if he doesn’t I have a feeling he won’t last too long in the competition, am really keen to hear him sing something other than swing.

Pops opinion of the Judges

September 6th, 2007

Kyle - Most folk know I just love the guy, yes he makes me cringe and sometimes I don’t agree, but 90% of the time I do. I love his honesty and after listening to that interview last night wuth Andrew Denton and saying most of the judges watch the rehearsals first, I think they all should take that on board and judge them like he does, raw….as we do at home. UI have always felt the judges should not get as personable as they do, risks favourtism.

Mark - I respect Mark when he’s not carrying on like a pork chop, he really does know his buisness, although in saying that, he has me confused on his obsession with Lisa Mitchell last year and Husney this year. He did a stint with the contestants in the studio … one and one and I really did enjoy that, really did show his credable side. I also watched his acoustic special …. was fabulous, would love to see him sing live at a small venue, but I guess that’s all over with now….:(

Marcia - Sorry Marcia but you bore me, your comments are sooooo predictable You have however shown a little more spunk this year but that seems to only be toward the other judges. Would love to see some of that attitude directed at giving the contestants some constructve feedback instead of trying to be nice.

Dicko - Have heaps of respect for this guy and he comes acoss as the one with the most credability. He’s funny, he’s honest and gives great advice …… LONG LIVE DICKO YEHAA!!!!

Idol 2007 - 1st Impressions of the Top 24

September 4th, 2007

1st Impressions of the Top 24

Tarisai Vushe for me personally was always a shoe in, just a brilliant voice. Not overly keen on the personality but that will probably change….early days

Daniel Misfud all class this guy and gives me the impression he has a beautiful heart, he has the looks, the voice, the style and comes across very comfortable within himself which may hold him in good stead for the competition.

Holly Weinert I felt had a stronger voice than Jesse but too similar. She does have an interesting voice though so will be interested to see how she goes.

Jesse Curran confident young women but too similar to Holly, I thought the song was strange she chose for the audition …. perhaps it was deliberate so they would remember her, a smart move.

Brianne Carpenter …. it’s good to have someone so different in the competition but how will she cope with all the different themes or is she too left of centre, she’ll be interesting to watch.

Carl Riseley is cool but I’m not sure how vocally strong he is for this competition. I love swing so I’m looking forward to his time on the show.

Cheray Doughty her reaction to getting through really touched me and I’m looking forward to her journey.

Husny Thalib A great story teller but I’m not sure if it will suit Idol, very edgy performer, reminds me a little of Prince too ….

Sarah Lloyd hasn’t yet left an impression on me yet, look forward to seeing her singing a complete song as I can see she has some power there, she’s certainly got the look!

Jack Byrnes and so happy for this young man and am looking forward to see how he progresses in this show

Marty Simpson there is something very special about this young mans voice but whether we will see his personality come through is a different thing, would like to see his face more, he seems to hide a little.

Matt Corby reminds me of a young Elvis ….. something VERY special about this young man. He seems to have an old soul on young shoulders, really looking forward to his journey, if there was one person I believe can win this it’s Matty ….. but it’s early days so I know my mind may probably change.

Benji Mckenzie I like his quirky sound, something a little different ….. the young girls will love him.

Jacob Butler is somebody I have enjoyed watching for some time now and believe he does have a place in the music industry, whether its being the winner of Idol 2007, time will tell.

Natalie Gauci probably one of the best female voices in this competition. The camera will love her.

Lyall Adonis best and warmest smile in the competition, I can see this young man really growing through this experience. The dark horse of this competition.

Rosie Robbins love her personality and look forward to her journey, can see her staying around for a while for the fact she has been through the experience before and that, I’d say, would be invaluable.

Dave Andrews gets better every time I see him.

Lana Krost I felt like she was a little too classical but its early days

Junior To’o Liked his voice but didn’t see enough of him

Maddison Pritchet can’t recall even seeing her?

Morgan Hosking can’t recall even seeing her but she’s beautiful looking.

Mark Da Costa was blown away by his voice …loved it!!!!!

Sally Vanderzwart can’t recall even seeing her?
