Review of Top 11
September 13th, 2007Matt Corby - This young man blows me away, he’s grounded, he comes across like a really nice young bloke, not at all up himself as perhaps you would expect a young man with his looks and talent would … he’s a real credit to his parents. I’m sure they can’t take the smile of their faces every time he sings. I’m looking forward to how he rocks it out on Sunday night.
I wish he would stop wearing those big shirts over his shinny jeans as they make his legs look a little bowed on TV. My gut feeling is he will be one of the top two that walk up those steps to the Opera house.
Mark Da Costa - I so want him to be the other contestant that walks up those steps with Matty. This guy is so comfortable within himself, that in itself, is very appealing, I love the way he sits one leg over the the other and always looks so relaxed as though he’s done this all before. He has a strength of character which I believe will hold him in good stead with this journey and if I was Matty’s mum I’d be very relieved that my son would be rooming with him, I feel he will be a great help to Matty throughout this competition.
He probably hasn’t got the best vocals in the competition but I do enjoy listening to him, he is bar far the best entertainer out of the group and that, I believe, is what will keep him in the comp for some time.
Tarisai Vushe - By rights if this competition was based on vocals alone this kid would have it in the bag. My concern is her personality doesn’t seem to appeal to the general public, going on what I read on the forum and what friends have said. When she first came to this competition, we saw a vivacious young women that was incredibly appealing…. then I feel she overdid the religious thing and I get the feeling someone has got in her ear and told her to ease up. If this is the case and it may be in my imagination then I think she should go back to the way she was and be herself because at the moment she comes across as a little fake and I don’t believe that to be the case at all. Just listening to her again and by rights she should be walking up those steps with Matty, time will tell I guess.
Daniel Mifsud - Daniel has a distinct style and I think the public will either love it or find it a little too cruisey to watch week in and week out, if he can show us some diversity he could stay in the contest for a while. He certainly has the look and comes across as an incredibly nice guy, unfortunately nice guys don’t always win. Considering he is getting over his sore throat, I think rock will be a tough week for him. If he doesn’t win then I hope he puts a CD out because I’d be buying it to play when we have our friends over for a dinner party.
Jacob Butler - I have a feeling it will come down to Mark v Jacob eventually. I love to watch Jacob perform but I love to watch Mark more, but that’s just me. Jacob I feel has had a fair bit of support to get to this part of the competition so I really hope he does well. Don’t get me wrong I love watching him perform but I have no connection with him as yet …. for someone who has had the experience he’s had, the last two performances, I have felt he just tries too hard …. I can’t blame him for that, after what he’s given up to get to this stage but I would love him to connect more with us at home rather than just get on stage and jump around like he’s playing at Wembly.
Ben McKenzie - Shows a great deal of class and confidence for someone so young, very much the dark horse of this competition. His voice is incredibly marketable and I’d imagine a record producer would love to record with him. I like him, but he’s only left one impression on me so far with Mad World. His dress sense has improved incredibly since we saw him stroll in at the auditions, really starting to look the part now, maybe he should help Marty out in that department
Natalie Gauci - Just expected so much more from Natalie and I still believe that will come, not sure whether it’s her song choices or fashion sense is letting her down but she’s done nothing yet that has the wow factor associated to it and I so want to see that. Natalie comes across as one of the most genuine contestants in the house and I’d imagine would be very easy to live with.
I really want her to do well so we can keep a couple of women in this competition, I can see only her and Tarisai lasting the distance.
Carl Riseley - Has charm, charisma, bags of personality but will swing keep him in this competition????. He looks like he’s really enjoying his journey which is great to see. I can’t wait to see how he goes with rock, I just hope he doesn’t use a gimmick song like Waltzing Matilda again, show us you do have the chops as Marcia so aptly put it.
Marty Simpson - Mr Cool ….. he really needs to work on his image, if he does that, the young girls of Australia I have no doubt will keep him in the competition. This young man, more than most needs the experience…..if he’s here for a few more weeks then his confidence will grow and he may finally show us the great personality he has. Listening to his songs on MySpace he’s certainly talented but is he an entertainer and has he got it in him to be one …. that’s the question?? ….. we will only ever find out if he is kept in the competition and given that time to grow,
Brianna Carpenter - I like Brianna but sometimes she comes over a little cocky, she has a sharp tongue which we saw back when she had a dig at Kyle, back then I thought it was a silly thing to say….anyway since then she’s grown on me, she intrigues me a little. This Sunday I would dearly love her to come out dressed straight and really belt one out. I can’t wait to see what she chooses to sing but if it’s some left of field song she may risk going…..get into some rock kiddo and show us what you can do!!!
Lana Krost - Isn’t she just a sweet young women, I have a really bad feeling she may go this week, how can she possibly give any rock song and credibility with such a fragile voice that she has?
I so hope she proves me wrong and comes out with leather pants a bad arse shirt and rocks her little heart out YEHAA!!!
